The Complete 7-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Telouet → Aït Ben Haddou → Ouarzazate
After an early departure from Marrakech, the road climbs steadily into the High Atlas Mountains, offering sweeping valley views and glimpses of traditional Berber villages clinging to the hillsides.
The first major stop is Telouet Kasbah, a crumbling but still striking former stronghold of the Glaoui clan, with faded painted plasterwork inside that hints at its former grandeur.
From there, continue to Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, arguably Morocco’s most photographed site a fortified ksar of red mudbrick towers rising straight out of the desert plain, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
The day wraps up in Ouarzazate with a visit to Taourirt Kasbah, once the seat of power for the Glaoui pashas, before settling into your riad for the night.

Day 2
Ouarzazate → Skoura → Dades Valley
Leaving Ouarzazate behind, the route follows the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs into the Dades Valley, where the landscape shifts dramatically from arid plains to lush palm groves and rose gardens.
Stop for a guided hike through the valley, and walk beneath the Monkey Fingers rock formation, a striking series of eroded cliffs shaped by centuries of wind and flash floods into forms that genuinely resemble fingers reaching skyward. The evening is yours to relax and enjoy dinner at your accommodation.

Day 3
Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Merzouga
The morning takes you through Todra Gorge, where the canyon narrows to just 10 meters wide in places while the cliffs on either side soar to 300 meters, a favorite spot for rock climbers and an unforgettable photo stop.
From there, the road stretches east across increasingly open desert terrain toward Merzouga. As the afternoon light softens into gold, trade the 4×4 for a camel and set off into the Erg Chebbi dunes, some of the tallest in Morocco at over 150 meters. Watch the sunset paint the dunes orange and pink before arriving at a luxury desert camp for a traditional Berber dinner and a first night under an extraordinary blanket of stars.

Day 4
Sahara Desert Exploration
Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the golden dunes, one of the most peaceful moments of your journey. After breakfast, our adventure starts with a 4×4 drive across the Erg Chebbi dunes, following the tracks used by locals and nomads. We’ll stop in the heart of the desert, where you’ll have time to enjoy the silence, take in the endless views, and try sandboarding down the soft golden dunes, one of the most enjoyable ways to experience the Sahara.
We’ll then visit a local Berber nomadic family, where you’ll be welcomed with a glass of mint tea and discover their traditional way of life. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the customs, hospitality, and daily life of families who have called the desert home for generations.
We’ll continue to the historic M’ifis Mines before visiting a local Lake, where flamingos and other migratory birds can often be seen during the right season. We’ll finish the day at one of our favorite panoramic viewpoints overlooking the dunes before returning to your riad.
For lunch, you’ll enjoy a traditional homemade meal prepared by the family, offering an authentic taste of southern Moroccan cuisine in a truly unique setting.
The rest of the afternoon is yours to relax by the pool, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, or choose an optional quad bike adventure before another beautiful Sahara sunset.

Day 5
Merzouga → Erfoud → Ziz Valley → Aguelmame Sidi Ali
Leaving the dunes behind, the route passes through Erfoud, a town built on the region’s fossil trade, where 400-million-year-old trilobites and ammonites are still being unearthed from the surrounding rock. From there, follow the Ziz Valley, one of the most striking palm-lined river valleys in Morocco, with terraced villages stacked along the canyon walls.
The night is spent at one of Morocco’s most iconic hotels, tucked into a lakeside setting in the Middle Atlas Mountains, a striking, cooler contrast to the desert heat of the previous two days.

Day 6
Aguelmame Sidi Ali to Fes
The morning brings a change of scenery again: wander through the Middle Atlas cedar forest, home to some of the last wild populations of Barbary macaques, and take time to watch them up close in their natural habitat.
Continue to Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine-style architecture, sloped roofs, and cool mountain air, a town that feels almost transplanted from the Alps.
In the afternoon, arrive in Fes and set out on a walking tour with a local guide through the oldest medina in the country, a UNESCO-listed maze of tanneries, souks, and centuries-old madrasas that’s still entirely car-free.

Departure
After breakfast, transfer from Fes to the airport, or continue on to Casablanca, Tangier, or back to Marrakech, depending on your onward travel plans. Most flights and connections can be timed for a mid-morning or afternoon departure without rushing.
